Josephine County, OR (November 5, 2025) – A tragic early-morning crash in Josephine County claimed the life of 36-year-old Jacob Dean Mix and left another individual injured on Monday.
According to the Oregon State Police, the fatal single-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. on November 3 on Highway 238 near milepost 8. A Subaru Impreza, driven by 21-year-old Alexander Ray Yager of Grants Pass, was traveling westbound when it failed to navigate a curve in the roadway.
The vehicle veered off the highway, struck a utility pole, rolled several times, and eventually caught fire. Yager was able to escape the burning vehicle and was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. His passenger, Jacob Mix—also of Grants Pass—was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities cited speed and impairment as contributing factors. The crash closed the highway for approximately eight hours while an investigation was conducted with assistance from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
