Chico, CA (October 22, 2025) – A hit-and-run crash involving a scooter left one person seriously injured Tuesday evening in Chico, and police have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 6:49 p.m. on October 21 along East 20th Street near the junction with Highway 99. Officers with the Chico Police Department arrived at the scene to find a scooter rider suffering from serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled.
Investigators quickly determined that a white sedan was involved, and one witness provided the car’s registration number. Using automated license plate technology, law enforcement tracked the vehicle near Skyway and Highway 99. With help from CHP, the suspected driver—identified as Ky Sappasith—was stopped and arrested.
Sappasith was booked into Butte County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. The injured scooter rider was hospitalized, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
