Red Bluff, CA (January 5, 2025) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning on State Route 99E near Marek Road.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident occurred at approximately 5:44 a.m. The pedestrian was walking in the area when they were struck by a 2020 Toyota Corolla driven by 42-year-old Jose Luis Vargas Moran of Anderson.

Emergency responders from the Tehama County Fire Department arrived at the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

Moran remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. CHP has confirmed that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision.

The southbound lanes of SR-99E were closed temporarily as authorities conducted their investigation.
