Wilkesboro, N.C. (October 13, 2024) – A head-on collision in Wilkes County on Friday resulted in one driver’s death and left another with life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded to the fatal crash around 12:40 p.m. on NC 16 near Knollwood Drive. Investigators determined that a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, traveling south on NC 16, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound 2023 Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Jeep, 71-year-old Richard Wayne Earp of Taylorsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Explorer sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported for medical treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by authorities.
