According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened on September 15 along Farm-to-Market Road 1940. Authorities say a 2003 Chevy Malibu was traveling northbound when it veered into the southbound lane in a no-passing zone. The car then collided head-on with a 2021 Ford F-250 pickup.
The driver of the Malibu, identified as 51-year-old James Lohse of Planersville, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital in Bryan for evaluation.
A portion of FM 1940 was closed for several hours as investigators worked at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
