According to reports, 17-year-old Kaiya Raine Klopfenstein of Defiance was a passenger in a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old from Oakwood. Authorities said the vehicle was traveling northbound on County Road 133 when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the State Route 111 intersection. The vehicle crossed the intersection and veered off the road, striking a tree. Klopfenstein was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 18-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for further treatment. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
