Johnston County, NC (July 6, 2025) – A major multi-vehicle accident caused significant traffic delays late Saturday night after a crash shut down all westbound lanes of Interstate 40 in Johnston County.
News sources show the pileup happened around 11:30 p.m. on July 5 near mile marker 323. Responding authorities found a Toyota Camry facing eastbound in the westbound lanes, a Buick Lacross on the right shoulder, a pickup truck pushed up against the center cable median, and another passenger vehicle stopped in the left lane behind the pickup truck. Emergency crews worked through the night to clear the wreckage and reopen the affected lanes. Details on the number of people injured have not been released, but at least one person was reportedly hurt and treated on scene or transported for further care.
In a separate accident, a motorcycle crash in Dunn left two people injured overnight. That incident occurred just after midnight in the 4200 block of Ashe Avenue. Investigators said a Nissan Altima with three people inside attempted to turn around in a driveway and, while backing up, pulled directly into the path of an oncoming motorcycle. Both riders were ejected into a ditch and taken to a hospital in Raleigh for treatment, while the Nissan’s occupants were treated at the scene.
Law enforcement agencies in Johnston County and Harnett County continue to investigate both crashes.
