Mantua Township, NJ (July 26, 2026) – A 41 year old woman was killed and a young child was injured following a single vehicle crash on Route 55 in Gloucester County early Monday morning, July 21.
According to the New Jersey State Police, the incident began at approximately 11:57 p.m. Sunday near mile marker 50 on the southbound side of Route 55, where Mantua Township police had conducted a traffic stop.
Investigators said Holly Hageman, who had been riding in the back seat of the vehicle, was instructed to exit during the stop. Authorities reported that she instead moved into the driver’s seat, took control of the vehicle, and drove away from the location.
A short time later, New Jersey State Police notified Mantua Township police that the vehicle had crashed into a tree approximately three miles from the original traffic stop.
Hageman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead following the collision. A 5-year-old child who was inside the vehicle survived the crash and was transported for medical treatment with injuries that authorities said did not appear to be life-threatening.
