Albuquerque, NM (July 28, 2026) – A woman was killed in a collision involving an Albuquerque Police Department tactical officer responding to an emergency call on Thursday afternoon, according to New Mexico State Police.
According to the New Mexico State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 4:02 p.m. on July 23 at the intersection of New Mexico Highway 47 and Isleta Lakes Road.
Investigators said an Albuquerque Police Department tactical officer was traveling northbound on New Mexico Highway 47 with emergency lights and sirens activated while responding to a tactical callout. At the same time, a red Honda traveling southbound attempted to make a left turn, and the police vehicle struck the passenger side of the Honda.
The driver of the Honda was identified as 65-year-old Mireya Molina Ortiz. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
New Mexico State Police said the officer has not been publicly identified because no criminal charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation with assistance from the agency’s Vehicular Crimes Unit.
