Clatsop County, OR (September 15, 2026) – A four-vehicle crash on Highway 30 left one man dead and 16 others injured, including 13 Oregon National Guard members, on Saturday night, September 12. The accident occurred at approximately 8:56 p.m. near Milepost 85 and involved a Ford Ranger, a Ram 1500, a passenger van, and another pickup truck.
According to the Oregon State Police, a westbound Ford Ranger crossed into the opposing lanes and sideswiped a Ram 1500 before striking an eastbound passenger van carrying 11 Oregon National Guard members. A second pickup traveling behind the van was unable to stop and struck both the van and the Ford Ranger.
The driver of the Ford Ranger, 65-year-old Markham Marshall Stangland of Warrenton, died at the scene. Investigators reported that they believe Stangland was not wearing a seat belt. The drivers of the other two pickup trucks were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The passenger van was driven by Spc. Haiden Cunningham, 21, of Milwaukie. Cunningham suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for further care. Authorities said 17 people were involved in the accident overall.
