Springfield Township, PA (May 28, 2026) – A devastating wrong-way crash involving four vehicles claimed the lives of two Maryland residents Thursday night on Interstate 83 in York County.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the collision occurred around 10 p.m. on May 28 near Exit 10 in the Loganville area of Springfield Township. Investigators said 75-year-old Deborah Williams of Middle River, Maryland, was driving a Honda CR-V when she entered Interstate 83 at Exit 10 and traveled north in the southbound lanes.
Authorities reported that a southbound sport utility vehicle was unable to avoid a head-on collision with the Honda. The impact caused the sport utility vehicle to overturn and sent the Honda spinning across the roadway. A pickup truck approaching the crash scene moved onto the shoulder after seeing headlights traveling in the wrong direction. Troopers said the Honda and overturned sport utility vehicle then struck the pickup truck. A sedan traveling behind the vehicles was also unable to avoid the crash and collided with the overturned sport utility vehicle.
Deborah Williams and her passenger, 72-year-old Louis Williams of Middle River, Maryland, suffered critical injuries in the crash. Both were transported to York Hospital, where they later died from their injuries. The York County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victims were husband and wife.
The driver and passenger of the overturned sport utility vehicle were injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said the drivers of the pickup truck and sedan sustained minor injuries and declined medical transport at the scene.
